Rare Handcrafted Handbags

During my nearly two decades long career in Luxury retail, my palette was programmed towards knowledge of high end quality products or I can say I was near brand obsessive. Being acquainted with all of these bands is a crucial part of my business acumen and the environment I was involved in. I worked so hard, but I can also play hard.

I have a collection of Prada, Chanel, Tiffany, Gucci, Coach, Dolce & Gabbana, Versace and etc. My dream is to one day travel and shop at these places around the world, when and if that is ever possible. My thoughts about travel and shopping are endless.

Our normal lives were halted due to Covid-19 hard circumstances, but that doesn’t mean that my desires have halted to acquire and enjoy high end pieces!

I still do and I think I always will. But things change! So many things has changed since three months ago. I have used my time while at home to finish one of my life‘s goals to become a Jewelry Designer. Since I was home almost everyday, I had ample time to learn, finished the classes and quickly got certified. During the process, I was so enthusiastic, that I remained ahead of class schedule.

I was thrilled to use the skills hands-on in designing and handcrafting. I have a strong urge to go back to my roots with jewelry design. Much of my inspiration is mainly from what I learned and know about Philippines, in particular Iloilo, where I hail from. I went way back and dug deeper into Philippine concepts for designs. During my research, I found myself falling back in love with my culture and people. It helped me better understand the hard work and sweats that were invested and put into their craft, that anyone can use, enjoy and appreciate.

The preparation, the design, the manufacturing process, the raw materials, the thoughts and the total time is painstaking to make just one product. A true labor of love! This is exactly what I’d like to portray in my art. A connection with my roots, but always looking ahead, with plenty of heart.

Here’s my new favorite thing, rare handcrafted items from the Philippines. Products can be found at my Facebook Page Travel Wise Shop & Style. I love all of them, not only that each item is beautiful and fashionable, but also the fact that these handbags are sustainable products. Each handbag is handwoven in its finest weaving style possible from different kinds of fiber, like palm leaves and banana leaves. Some materials are added with snake skin and fish skin too. Handmade by hardworking Filipino people and lovingly made in the Philippines.

Life being on Hault

Life has changed drastically for most of us since Mid March of 2020. Being in SIP, ( Shelter in Place) our normal way of life was suspended and we now face each day with seemingly bottomless uncertainties. As an unflinching optimist, I saw the opportunity to find creative ways to entertain myself during this new normal. At first, the thought of being at home all the time made me feel like I couldn’t breath, but my new direction with jewelry production has minimized the chances of feeling claustrophobic and being smothered. Thank God for the technology, where we can still see what’s going on out there, outside of my home parameters. At least we have the option to touch base with our friends, family and community.  I asked myself what I can do now that I can’t go to work nor do I have work to go to . I am used to doing something and feeling accomplished at the end of the day. How would I make this new normal life work for me? I have come to a point where I have this flash back of memories. I remember my teenage life where I would assist my Mom in her Tailoring and dress shop. It was summer school break and I believe I was 14 years old when my Mom asked me to join her in her dress shop in the afternoon if I got nothing going on at home. She asked me to learn sewing and socialize with her co- workers in the shop. I enjoyed the process of learning about sewing and placing beads on the gown that she was making for a client. It was one of the best memories I have with my Mom. It was so much fun and I felt pretty useful to my Mom’s business.
(These warm memories of my Mother are what motivates me to remain focused on my work).

Everyday when I wake up, I’m inspired by the blend of design, art and discipline that my Mother instilled into me. It’s a labor of love, but more importantly, my body of work represents a shrine to her…I intend to utilize my time to get better on the skills and knowledge I have learned from 15 years of working in the industry. Also, I was certified as a Jewelry Designer from the New York Institute of Arts and Design. I feel accomplished and productive! I have enjoyed the Jewelry making class so much that I have not realized how time flies fast while I was at it! I think that anyone can find their hobby or passion and hone their skills into something special during “Life on Hault”Here are some examples of Jewelry I made in the last 3 months from April to July 2020.

Pink Diamond

One of the most rare color diamond. It is harder to find due to its rarity and availability the reason why pink diamond’s value is higher than white diamonds. For someone who is looking for a one of a kind piece of jewelry that is not only beautiful but also a good investment to own, I highly suggest a pink diamond. It’s my first favorite color diamond.

Late Summer Travel in Europe

It’s been almost a month since I came back  from my Europe trip but I still can’t help to reminisce and still feel the excitement of what a great experience I had. Travel to me is like an itch that I got to scratch. I just can’t stop. Life is just so much fun and enjoyable when you travel. The experience is just once in a lifetime ecstasy. Each travel is unique and beautiful.

Why did I choose late August to travel? The airfare is unbelievably way low and inexpensive and less tourists or crowds to deal with. As much as possible I prefer to travel with ease and less chaotic.

My first stop – Jersey, United Kingdom. This is where my sister Millie lives with her loving husband Graham. Two amazing couple, with so much love to share with me and my two friends who were very happy to join me on this travel journey and discovery.  Here  is “Elizabeth Castle, a castle and tourist attraction, on a tidal island within the parish of Saint Helier, Jersey. Construction was started in the 16th century when the power of cannonmeant that the existing stronghold at Mont Orgueil was insufficient to defend the Island and the port of St. Helier was vulnerable to attack by ships armed with cannon. “(Wikipedia)

Georgian House – see below

To walk through the front door of 16 New Street is to step back in time and experience life in Regency Jersey. With evocative sounds and smells, you will be transported to a time of elegance when gentlemen smoked clay pipes, ladies drank priceless tea and the threat of French invasion was always a hot topic of conversation. The Georgian House is open on Weds, Thurs and Fri from the beginning of April until the end of October.

Mont Orgueil (Jerriais: ‘Mount Pride’ or ‘Haughty Mount’) is a castle in Jersey that overlooks the harbour of Gorey. It is also called Gorey Castle by English-speakers, and lé Vièr Châté (the Old Castle) by Jèrriais-speakers.

Since it is Springtime in New York and the day was perfect Sunny!, I decided to walk thru 57th Street and head to Six Avenue. Viceroy Hotel where I was staying at is located at 57th Street and Six Avenue and a short walk towards the location of Central Park. Thanks to Google and Apple map! It made my life easier and find my way to Central Park without a fuzz. As I love taking photos and enjoyed using my Nikon Camera, I can’t help but got entranced with the beauty of Central Park. I just kept on taking photos of anything that I thought was picture worthy. The Park is quite a view! a relaxing place for everyone and it was so much fun to see the Cherry blossoms, the pond, the Bridge, the trees, the birds and people from every side of the world. Life is meant to be travel and share

It was 20 or more years ago when I started to get fascinated with traveling the other side of the world. I was newly graduate from International Relations degree. Being fresh from College, I was very fortunate to land a job in a Travel agency which I ended up building and managing my Own Travel Agency business. I got a chance and received many travel perks such as free flight and hotel accommodations. That’s when I realize that life is better when you travel, see other places, engage with people and experience different cultures! Life is quite even more exciting when you share your stories and so here I am… I hope I can inspire you and let you see and feels how it is to travel. Life can be exciting if you give yourself a chance to enjoy your life.
